The days of hard-riding, hair-trigger frontier justice, strong friendships, and even stronger hatreds, live again in his memorable novels of the Old West. "Action By Night" is the story of one man's fight to regain his own. Cattle rustlers were in full sway when Tracy Coleman took over the management of the Horsehead Ranch. Chief among the thieves were hard-bitten Dan Stuart, who wanted the land for his own, and shifty young Drew Trum-bo, who wanted Stuart's daughter Ann as well. Wits and guns were matched in Coleman's desperate struggle to get back control of the Horsehead. He was a keen judge of men and staunch in his convictions, but he had not counted on falling in love with Ann Stuart. Tracy Coleman thought of himself as a man fighting alone, but he could not have achieved his aim without a woman's help.Ernest Haycox was born on October 1, 1899 in Portland, Oregon. After receiving an education in the local schools of both Washington state and Oregon, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1915 and was stationed along the Mexican border in 1916. During World War I, he was in Europe, and after the war he spent one year at Reed College in Portland. In 1923, Haycox graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. In 1925, Haycox married Jill M. Chord, and they had two children. He published two dozen novels and about 300 short stories, many of which appeared first in pulp magazines in the early 1920s. Haycox died after unsuccessful cancer surgery in 1950, twelve days after his 51st birthday, in Portland. In 2005, the Western Writers of America voted Haycox one of the 24 best Western authors of the Twentieth Century.INSURANCE ON TRANSIT REQUIREDYour shipment will arrive in a padded envelope via USPS Priority Mail (1-4 business days), USPS Ground Advantage (2-5 business days), or USPS Media Mail (2-8 business days), after the 2-3 day processing time (upon paid purchase)Shipment(s) sent out of Lemon Grove, California, USAWill be packed very well - READ OUR FEEDBACK!No Returns ***AN INVOICE WILL BE SENT AFTER PURCHASE, WHICH MAY REFLECT A MORE ACCURATE POSTAGE RATE FOR THIS ITEM - DON'T PASS THIS UP YET!
