Description: VINTAGE "TEXAS 42" Bakelite / Catalin DOMINO BY CARDINAL Set Case ExC! ***Missing ONE Domino*** Other than one missing domino, this vintage Catalin (often referred to as Bakelite) "TEXAS 42" domino set by Cardinal out of Bronx, NY is in excellent condition. The outer vinyl box is excellent condition. The snap works great. The set comes complete with the original "TEXAS 42" instructions. The dominoes are beautiful and there are a total of 55, not 56. They are made of Catalin which came out the year Bakelite's patent expired. The difference between Bakelite and Catalin as described by the SpruceCraft website is: "The American Catalin Corporation began making appealing plastics in the late 1920s by adding color to a liquid resin that was cast in lead forms and allowed to cool slowly, according to The Bakelite Collectionby Matthew Burkholz (Schiffer). The material was still durable and heat resistant, but it was a lot more pleasing to the eye. So while Bakelite was used for items like insulators for electrical systems or handles on Deco-era toasters, for instance, Catalin was used for manufacturing varied jewelry, colorful radios, and other consumer goods widely collected today. Even so, the majority of these objects are described as Bakelite now. You may occasionally see sellers use both terms when marketing plastics of this nature as well." The set measures 7 3/4" wide x 4 1/2" long x 2" tall.
