All shelves are very sturdy and can hold quite a bit of weight. The bottom shelf is approximately 1" off the ground and sits atop three wooden ball feet. Each of the middle three shelves rotates 360 to the position of your liking. These tables are adorable, painted, or distressed if you choose to go that route. Each piece twists together & will be taken apart for shipping purposes.
