Description: Vintage Ostby Barton OB 10k Gold Opal Solitaire Ring Tall Crown Setting Sz 6 Click images to enlarge Description For your consideration is a 10k gold antique Victorian (early 1900s) opal solitaire ring. The ring was made by esteemed vintage jewelers Ostby & Barton, founded 1879 in Providence RI. The owner, Ostby, was actually from Norway and made a name for himself here in America. Tragically, he met his demise on the Titanic in 1912, probably just after the time this ring was made. His company went on to manufacture beautiful jewelry for years thereafter. I have two OB rings from the same estate parcel of very old jewelry--this one and a coral ring--in case you are interested. The ring is set with a beautiful natural opal cabochon, with orange and green flashes under the surface. It measures about 6 x 5 mm (just off round) and is approximately .40 ct in size. It's set in a tall Belcher / crown setting, with 6 claw prongs securing the opal and holding it up high. The opal is free from damage. The face measures 1/4" top to bottom and the head sits up 3/8" off the hand. It tests positive for 10k gold, guaranteed and has the partial OB mark (the O and part of the B) inside the shank. It weighs 2.1 grams, is a size 6 and can be sized by any competent jeweler. This ring is in very fine antique condition.
