Description: Nice Gibson A-4 mandolin from the late 1910's, probably 1917/8. Cherry sunburst. Some scuffing, scatches, etc., especially on the top. When I got it, it had a long hairline crack that runs almost the full length of the top on the treble side. I had it glued and cleated by a top-notch luthier. When the back was reglued to the sides, the back had just a tiny bit of shrinkage and doesn't fit the sides perfectly, off only about 1 mm. or less about one-third of the way around. Both of these repairs are shown the best that I can in the pictures, and of course have no effect on playability and sound. There is also a noticeable discoloration in the finish on the treble side (visible in picture) and also on the back of the neck near the headstock where it was held, also visible in a picture. Nice straight neck and virtually no fret wear. The instrument is all original except for the bridge, which is a quality modern adjustible one, professionally fitted. Incuded is a beautiful shaded, curly maple McClung arm rest, and the original hardsell case which is in great shape wiith a replaced handle. This is an attractive vintage mandolin with great action and nice Gibson oval-hole sound. Only selling it because of old age and illness, and, after 55 years of pickin' I can no longer play. And of course I need the money. I be glad to answer any questions.
