Description: Vintage French Terracotta Dressed Santon From Provence “Lavender Gatherer”, Signed Devillaine This vintage French partially painted “santon” from Provence represents a lavender gatherer with his bill hook, or harvesting knife, and a big bouquet of lavender. He is dressed in a traditional Provencal costume of woolen vest and black hat. His trousers are lavender colored as is the ribbon he wears around his neck. The maker’s name, “Devillaine”, a “santonnier”, or santon maker, in Marseille, is inscribed on the base. In very good condition, with the exception of normal signs of age and use, this santon will add a charming atmosphere of Provence to your home or will be an excellent addition to your collection.
