Description: Vintage WWII era Hobe large sterling silver bow brooch. Signed. Measures approx. 2 3/4" x 2 1/2" Weighs approx. 32 grams Marked "Hobé STERLING" in a triangle cartouche Lovely 1940's piece! Would make a great gift for a Hobe collector. During WWII Hobé and other US jewelry companies used sterling silver in the late due to a scarcity of other metals which were being used in the war effort. This gave rise to what became a signature style for Hobe -- silver bow and spray brooches. One of Hobé's advertising slogans was "Jewels of Legendary Splendor" and their high quality jewelry lives up to that claim. The family designed and sold jewelry in the US between the years of 1927 and 1995 and their creations were only available in upscale department stores and boutiques. One of the things I find most interesting about Hobé is the variety of styles the company made over the years -- all of it beautiful and stylish.
