This Nelson McCoy Celadon matte green glaze vase appears in a 1948 McCoy catalog, although this form has been offered by McCoy since the 1933. This is a Celadon glaze, which is also described as Matte Green. Measures 8 inches tall by about 6 inches wide at the handles. The base diameter is 3.5 inches in diameter and the mouth just under 3-1/2" in diameter. You will spot minute flaws in the glaze in a few spots, which are part of the charm of older McCoy pottery. Nelson McCoy Pottery: 1. Founding: The Nelson McCoy Sanitary and Stoneware Company was established in 1910 by Nelson McCoy Sr., with help from his father and five stockholders, in Roseville, Ohio. The company initially produced utilitarian stoneware. 2. American Clay Products Company: In 1919, the company joined with eleven other stoneware potteries to form the American Clay Products Company (ACPC), which marketed their products collectively1. 3. Rebranding and Expansion: By 1929, the company had rebranded to the Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Co. and began marking its wares1. In 1933, reflecting a shift in market demand towards decorative pieces, it became the Nelson McCoy Pottery Co. 4. Ownership Changes: The McCoy family operated the pottery until 1967 when it was sold to the owners of the Mt. Clemens Pottery Co. It changed hands again in 1974 to the Lancaster Colony Corporation and later to Designer Accents of New Jersey in 19851. 5. Legacy: Despite these changes, Nelson McCoy Pottery remains a beloved name among collectors, known for its distinctive and varied designs4. We ship all items in bubble wrap inside a corrugated box.
