VICTORIAN 1860’S HAND QUILTED SILK DE CHINE WRAPPER DRESS W EMBROIDERY

Description: DATING TO THE 1860’S IT IS SO VERY RARE TO FIND ONE OF THESE THAT IS SO EARLY. MOST SURVIVORS ARE FROM THE 1870’S AND 1880’S. FASHIONED OF A STEEL BLUE SILK DE CHINE FABRIC WITH A PEARL FINISH THROUGHOUT AND IS HAND QUILTED THROUGHOUT. CORDED FROGS CLOSE FROM THE NECKLINE TO BOTTOM WITH ROUNDED PATCH POCKETS HAVING DENSER QUILTING THAT MATCHES THE DENSER QUILTING OF THE COLLAR. THE ENTIRE BOTTOM IS SPRINKLED WITH BEAUTIFUL EMBROIDERY OF BEES, BUTTERFLIES, FLORALS, AND DRAGONFLIES WITH SMALL PORTIONS DETAILED IN GOLD COUCHED THREAD. THE EMBROIDERY RUNS COMPELTELY AROUND THE ENTIRE BOTTOM. THE EMBROIDERY IS ALSO AROUND THE BOTTOM CUFFS. BELT LOOPS IN THE REAR BUT NO CORDED BELT WAS FOUND. NOTE THE HUGE BELL SHAPE WITH THE REAR FLOWING IN A TRAIN. FULLY BATTED THROUGHOUT THE INTERIOR AND LINED IN SILK DE CHINE. CONDITION: SMALL STAINING SEEN ON THE REAR TRAIN EDGE WITH THE SEAM ALONG THE BOTTOM HAVING NUMEROUS SMALL OPENINGS AND NEEDS TO BE STITCHED BACK INTO PLACE. LIGHT SOILING IS SEEN TO THE UNDER ARMS AND THE CUFFS ON EACH SIDE. THERE IS A LINE OF A WATER STAIN ON ONE THAT IS FAINT BUT PRESENT. THE WATER STAINING EXTENDS ON THE LEFT SIDE ASIDE THE POCKET. SOME SMALL SPLITTING TO THE SILK OF THE COLLAR IS SEEN WITH THE REMAINDER EXTERIOR SILK FULLY STRONG AND WITHOUT SPLITTING. INTERIOR INNER LINING HAS SOME STAINING AT THE REAR BACK WITH THE SEAM OPEN IN THE CENTER AT TWO POINTS AND SOME SMALL LIGHT SOILING ON THE BOTTOM EDGE. ALL IS EASILY FORGIVEN FOR SUCH A VERY RARE ANTIQUE WRAPPER GOWN.
