Description: Victoria Austria Artemis Diana Neoclassical Scene Dark Turquoise 9 1/2 Inch Bowl PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE PURCHASING OR MAKING AN OFFER. Antique Austrian porcelain bowl decorated in the neoclassical / allegorical central scene of two women and cupid. The women both have quivers full of arrows and one of them has a crescent moon in her hair. I believe the women are Artemis (Diana in Roman mythology) and the nymph Daphne. The background of the bowl is ivory, with a dark turquoise or teal band with ivory arrows. The bowl has a red Victoria crown Austria mark on the base. This is an overglaze decorating mark used by Schmidt & Company between 1904 and 1918. Very similar to some pieces by RS Prussia, the bowl could have been made by them and decorated by Schmidt & Co. The bowl has a 1/8 inch in manufacture firing separation to the edge. There are two in manufacture glazed over cracks extending off the edge about 5/8 inch long. There is also a 2 1/4 inch long post manufacture tight crack extending off the edge, but most of it is covered by the turquoise band and it is still a very pretty bowl. Measures approximately 9 1/2 inches wide x 2 1/4 inches tall. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not affect the display of the piece. KV
