Description: USS OHIO SSBN-726, Offered is a naval commissioning cover for the 560' Ohio Class ballistic missile submarine. Cover postmarked first day from the submarine on November 11, 1981. Color photo of submarine on commissioning day printed on add-on cachet #2426 by Alvin Eckert, USCS #9964 on an envelope serviced by Capt. Robert Rawlins, USN. The proud new 560' submarine was the leading vessel of her 18 Ohio Class strategic missile submarines. This fine fighting vessel was one of the four converted in 2003-2006 from a strategic missile platform to a cruise missile battery/special forces transport role, in the transformational Navy of the post 9/11 era. The USS Ohio is expected to be replaced in 2029. She is based at Bangor, Washington for Pacific Fleet duty, into 2022. See the web pages for her service history and details about her armed missiles. Cover franked with 20 cent C stamp #1946. Seller has over 200 different submarine covers. Check out my other items!
