Becoming a father was the key inspiration behind the creation of his new album, which he has dedicated to his three-year-old daughter, Malaya. Both of their hands can be seen caressing piano keys on the album cover. The opening intro ‘Beautiful Little Angel’ features voice clips of Tokio speaking with Malaya, setting the tone for the heart and passion that he has devoted to the album. What follows are a multitude of magical musical pieces, including several original compositions and special renditions of traditional classics, that are goosebump inducingly powerful, transcendental and therapeutic. Awake But Dreaming: Opus I is the culmination of Tokio’s pursuits both in music and in life over the last seven years. With depths of pain and vulnerability balanced out by undertones of hope and joy, the album would also not exist if it weren’t for Tokio’s daughter Malaya - the beating heart behind every note.
