DAVID BOWIE "THE WORLD OF DAVID BOWIE" DECCA RECORDS cat# SPA.58 ********************************************************** A record dating back to David's earlier 'pre fame' days, when he was trying everything in his imagination to break through - for the man who came to set trends for himself, it seemed he was yet to find what he wanted to be! Bluesman, mime, Anthony Newley type, Scott Walker, Folkie or heavy rocker, he went for every style. This one was a surprise for the record company, as he was 'a thing of the past' to them when they compiled this album. Redio 2 still played the novelty 'Laughing Gnome' but they didn't expect to hear much else - Space Oddity was a brief one-off hit single too. Since he was one of their 'loss leaders' and they were releasing a series of 'WORLD OF...' issues by other artists from their vaults, this was among them. Still - David wasn't a has-been, he was yet to become HUGE! When Decca saw it, they decided to cash in on his resurgence and reissue this set with a new and more current photo on the cover. The new edition sold better, on the back of the 'new' David Bowie Glam image - probably confusing for his new fans though. This original UK pressing is a special item, and it's rare to find expecially in respectable condition. I recommend this recording for every early Bowie collector and completist. CONDITION; The VINYL grades EXCELLENT. Blue Lables are EXCELLENT, no stains, stickers or pen. The LAMINATED GATEFOLD COVER is VG, having general wear, some creasing and sign of age.
