Description: SPORT IN ART, "THE PAINTING FISHERMAN". Winslow Homer showed the wild outdoors as he knew and loved it in the 19th Century and set a style that is still in vogue today. Two-page double-sided magazine article with three illustrations of fishing artwork. This excellent, short article appeared in a September 1954 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. Three small illustrations of the following works of art included with the short article: THE OUANANICHE, a rare landlocked salmon, is striking as well this month as he was in 1897 when Winslow Homer did "Ouananiche Fishing" in the Canadian wilds. The STILLNESS of a mountain lake, mirroring the shadows of the tree-lined shore half hidden by a mist overcast, was recorded by angler-artist Homer in "Trout Fishing, Lake St. John, Quebec" in 1895. "Adirondack Guide" is a shimmering picture of a mountaineer in his native habitat. The bewhiskered oarsman probably is a likeness of Old Mountain Philips, one of several guides who accompanied Homer on his fishing and painting trips. These are the two original double-sided magazine pages with the art described above shown. The pages are in overall good condition. Paper has yellowed slightly with age. Edges were trimmed. Each page now measures 7 3/4" x 11 1/2". I'll place the pages inside a plastic sleeve and add white foam board for protection while mailing by USPS Ground Advantage in a bubble envelope. I'll mail the same day, or next day after payment is received.
