Darton, J. Harvey & W. Belch (1805). Artist, Julius Ibbetson (Yorkshire, 1759 - 1812). An accomplished landscape, marine, figure and animal painter, Ibbetson gained public recognition at the early age of seventeen. He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy as early as 1785. He continued to exhibit there until his death, gaining a reputation for being one of the greatest painters of his day. Engraver, James Tookey (British, active 1800 - 1830): The English artist James Tookey was an accomplished engraver of animals, landscapes and portraits. Active in England during the first half of the 19th century, he engraved the plates for Church's, Cabinet of Quadrupeds, Bell's British Theatre. Speciments of his work will be found in the collections of the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, N. Y.A small number of the sets were hand-colored at the time of publication.
