Description: Stevens & Williams Style Victorian Glass Vase, White/Applied Acorn & Leaves 773 Pretty opaque glass vase with ruffled and crimped amber crest rim. The applied decoration on this glass, referred to as Matsu-no-ke, is influenced by Japanese designs and was developed by Frederick Carder for Stevens & Williams in 1884. Several other companies also produced glass in this style during the Victorian period, making it hard to attribute to a specific maker. The decoration features applied and tooled glass in the form of an acorn and oak leaves in a blend of red and amber. The body is white milk glass with a line of transparent amber glass applied at the rim. Victorian vases were often displayed in pairs, and we have a matching vase listed as well.Condition: No chips, cracks or noticeable wear. A couple of manufacturing "straw" marks on the body. A bit of dirt or ash has accumulated under the leaves where it is difficult to remove. Marks: No maker's mark. Polished pontil. Dimensions: 7" high, 3 3/4" at widest point.
