This is one of four cartoons done by Schulz for the program for the 38th Bing Crosby National Pro-Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach, CA in Feb. of 1979. Crosby had died in 1977 (on a golf course). The tournament continued after his death, hosted by his son Nathaniel, who is referred to in the Schulz drawing. The largest event of its kind, the tournament lured a galaxy of great golfers, actors, entertainers and other celebrities. Participating in 1979 were, among many others, Gerald Ford, Bob Hope, Clint Eastwood, Andy Williams, Willie Mays, Glen Campbell, Jack Lemon, Bob Newhart, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Ben Crenshaw. The original program for the tournament accompanies the drawing and measures 8.5 x 11. With copyright slip of United Feature Syndicate affixed below image. Pencil notation. A wonderful piece of golf history.
