Description: SUPER RARE- ONE OF A LIMITED NUMBER OF SAMPLES SUBMITTED TO THE SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM - VINTAGE 1992 Beautiful American Indian Art Pottery Cup/Bowl Signed: "Immanuel MANA Trujillo Apache Arizona 1992 Smithsonian Museum Test #0014" Handmade pottery bowl or cup hand crafted in 1992 in Aravaipa Valley in southeastern Arizona. Designed by well known sculptor and artist, Immanuel Trujillo MANA (1928-2010), founder of Mana Pottery. This art piece was created exclusively for Smithsonian Museum to be considered for a Native American Indian exhibit. It was part of a Apache collection made by Trujillo. It is marked as sample #14. We do not know the total number of test pieces that he made, nor how many pieces that he submitted to the museum. The underside was incised/engraved with the markings before it was glazed and fired. This confirms its authenticity and that it's not a reproduction. It's genuinely a one of kind museum quality piece. Research showed there are no others like it being sold or sold. Hand painted abstract design of a Longhorn bull surrounded with symbolic flora in deep rich black. Muted background was painted with natural natural earth tones. The inside and bottom are also painted in the rich black and along the the rim. The underside is deeply enscribed in hand writing: "KIVA - Immanuel 1992, Arizona, USA, Apache, Smithsonian Connection Test Unit #0014-" Quick Bio: Online resources document that Immanuel was born in 1928 by his unwed teen mother and some resources state that his father was Apache and a WW I veteran. Although this info was never proven. Immanuel "Mana" Trujillo co-founded Peyote Way Church of God in 1948.Mana Pottery was started in 1948 to help fund operations of the church. He was involved with both the NAC (Native American Church) and the Peyote Way Church. We suggest to potential buyers to research Mana Pottery and Smithsonian Museum to find more in depth information about him, his art, and the churches. Stated on the Mana Pottery site, the Peyote Way pottery line was featured in The Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian Collection in 1994. This information lends us to believe this piece was marked to be a submission to the museum for consideration. Dimensions: Stands 3" tall by 3-1/2" in diameter. The walls are about 1/4" thick.
