Description: From the packaging: "The inspiration for this pin comes from a brass plaque created by Cincinnati artist Benn Pitman in the 1880s. Pitman's intricate design of entwined ivy recalls medieval sources." We have been cleaning out drawers and closets of things handed down from previous generations. This pin has a copyright date of 2003, so it's not very old. It is, however, museum quality. We do know it was purchased from the Cincinnati Art Museum who has a collection of Pitman's works. Mostly known as an author and teacher of shorthand, Pitman (1822-1910) was also active in the arts and crafts movement and designed some furniture and plaques. A picture of the plaque on which this pin is based is included in the photos. I kind of went down a rabbit hole researching this piece (no offense to rabbits). The designer / manufacturer of this pin is David Howell & Company, a New York jewelry maker that specializes in nature-inspired pieces for museums worldwide. Please check out my other listings of old/rare/vintage currency, memorabilia, jewelry and football cards. Thanks for looking. Please remember when buying and selling on eBay, leave feedback for those you do business with. It assists the honest folks and helps weed out the others.
