Description: Paolo Boni. Titled Transport (White), it is hand-signed and numbered from a limited edition of 150. The piece on heavy paper, is in very good condition, with dimensions of 31-1/4" x 22-3/4". It has a retail of $1250. Paoli Boni lived in Paris since 1954 and became famous mostly for his engravings, made out of a mosaic of various pieces of metal. Old electrotypes and coins, for instance, were sawn-off and filed down, after which each one was inked separately and used as an engraving plate. He had used this technique since 1957; from 1970 onwards he referred to the engravings, for which he often used blue, ochre and reddish-brown as colours, as 'graphisculptures'. In the heavy paper on which they are printed, the pieces of metal leave indentations of various depths, giving the prints a three-dimensional impression. Boni’s prints may be found in the print collections of major museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery, the Library of Congress, Yale University, Princeton University, the Brooklyn Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and many others in the US. In France, he is represented in the Musée Picasso, the Grand Palais, the Bibliothèque Nationale, and the Musée d’Art Modèrne.
