Description: This listing is for an Original Vintage metal Etched hand-engraved lithograph / intaglio Print Plate. It depicts a Nassau hall in Princeton New Jersey, and was made by John Sellers & Co in England. This piece is a great look into the art-making process, a rare glimpse at items not usually seen for sale. It would be perfect for framing, or display as is. Could potentially also be used to make art still. Very intricately engraved with an extreme eye for detail. It is in good vintage condition. I believe it was not used thousands of times like other plates, as the engraved lines are still very crisp. It has a nice patina currently, and could be polished up to a bright shine if desired. It is not signed by the artist that I have seen, but it is marked on the back by the company. Usually the print was created by covering this plate with ink, wiping off the excess, then using a press to imprint the plate onto a piece of paper with massive pressure. After the paper is peeled away, the paper is left with an inked impression of the engraved artwork, after which the artist will usually sign number & date the artwork in pen or pencil. I believe this plate is vintage or antique based on the patina, and quality of the materials used. Whoever the artist was, they had great technical skill to execute a design like this in such crisp lines. A great gift for lovers of art, collectors, display / decor, and more.
