Description: A wonderful vintage 1930s signed MCCLELLAND BARCLAY necklace! Goldtone setting with various crystal clear rhinestones and emerald green rhinestones The necklace features the typical 3 dimensional design Barclay was famous for A high quality necklace in excellent vintage condition! The piece listed here is an Art Deco necklace that is reminiscent of jewelry worn by celebrities in the 30's and 40's. In fact, Barclay was a designer to the Hollywood stars. This necklace is glitter and glam. Made of large, central golden panel filled with sparkly green rhinestone baguettes and faux diamond gems. The necklace measures almost 16" in length from clasp to hook. The center piece of the necklace is approximately 4-1/4" long and 1-1/2" wide in the center and is surrounded on either side by 2 small golden panels that are hinged to the center piece. The necklace has a single large link chain and closes with a fold-over clasp. It is in excellent condition with only minor wear It bares the McClelland Barclay mark that was commonly placed on his pieces of jewelry for easy identification. None of the stones have fallen out or been replaced. The jewelry is as beautiful as it was when it was made and purchased. All parts are original and in excellent condition! Unfortunately, Barclay's life came to an abrupt end during WWII in 1943 when a landing ship he was on was destroyed by an enemy torpedo. His body was never found. Barclay only designed jewelry for a few short years before his death, making any piece a true collector's dream! He was born in 1891 and painted and made sculptural utilitarian pieces and decorative objects for the home, as well as jewelry. He had a magnificent and unique design sense.
