It features a girl holding a chalkboard on her lap and looking very concentrated in her work, doing her ABC's. It measures 7.25" tall x 3” wide x 4.25" deep. It is marked with 89 on base. Impressed factory mark with Made in Spain on base. The company was founded in 1953 by three brothers, Juán, José and Vicente Lladró, in the village of Almàssera, near Valencia. Starting with items such as vases and jugs, it wasn't until 1956 that they started producing the sculptures for which they are now known for. The “NAO” by Lladro collection of porcelain figures takes its name from Columbian-era sailing boats that carried adventurers and their creativity and skill to all corners of the world.
