Founders Charles T. Byrne and James F. Ryan started Kokomo Brass Works to produce brass castings for the plumbing industry. Their line of toys, under the name Kokomo Toys, came into its height in the 1920s and 1930s with racing cars, trucks, fire engines, and transportation toys a specialty. Electrically run model racers were an innovative addition (called 'Electricar'), though expensive for Depression times. The toy line disappeared in 1931.
