About This Print:The most unique characteristic of Savannah is the way it was designed by General Oglethorpe along the lines of a grid system he had heard was being utilized in China. The plan reveals a uniform grid that is all commercial but within each segment of the grid is a square planted with trees and crisscrossed with pathways with residential homes on the outer side of the surrounding street. Each of Savannah’s squares focuses on a statue in its center representing a famous person in the city’s history. The squares personify Savannah’s captivating charm making the city both delightfully walkable and fascinating architecturally.
