Description: This large meteorite bladed knife is a one-of-a-kind, handmade and individually designed custom knife. The knife came from a small collection of meteorite bladed knives made for a collector who found a large, natural piece of meteorite in the Arizona desert and hade it crafted into knife blades. The blade was made from a piece of meteorite utilizing the Wootz forging process which dates back to at least the 14th century. The Wootz technique of forging reveals the dendritic structure of the meteorite. This method of forging is totally different from the modern pattern welded damascus steel with its clean and orderly lines. Additionally, the San Mai method of forging provides flexibility to prevent the blade from being too brittle. The darker portions of the blade are natural carbon inclusions which add beauty and authenticity of natural meteorite. This large knife is approximately 13 7/8" long O.L. with and approximately 8 5/8" long blade up to the nickel silver hilt. The handle material appears to be bone or antler. The gorgeous 2 1/2" carved dragon head on the end of the handle symbolizes the intrigue associated with meteorite blades. The knife has never been carried or used.
