Description: Reproduction of a map from "If Christ Came to Chicago," a 1894 work by author WT Stead, a social reformer and journalist. Size is 20x30. Finish is satin. Stead attended the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago, and stayed on to write “If Christ Came to Chicago,” an expose on vice and crime. The map features a precinct in Chicago's old 1st Ward, an area bounded by Polk, Clark, Harrison and Dearborn streets and includes 46 saloons, 37 "houses of ill-fame" and 11 pawnbrokers. These are color coded on the map of the downtown vice district.
