A member of the avant garde group, Munich Secession, from 1906, Mayrshofer's drawings were exhibited in many important art exhibitions, including the Heinrich Thannhauser gallery in Munich, the Gurlitt gallery in Berlin, and in 1913 at the International Exhibition of Modern Art (The Armory Show) in New York. The art critic Georg Jakob Wolf writes about Mayrshofer's debut in the Modern Gallery in 1910: "So amazingly, it has mature originality that parallels with Liebermann, even Menzel, and wants to impose itself in exuberant ecstasy." From 1908 Mayrshofer taught at the Munich Academy and Anton Azbe's private school. He was soon accepted as a graphic artist for the artistic periodicals “Jugend”, “Simplicissimus” and “Hyperion”. In 1925 he was appointed professor at the Munich Academy. Mayrshofer lived all his life in Munich, where he died on December 9, 1950. The President of the Munich Secession, Prof. Günther Graßmann, made the commemorative speech.
