With its fine detail and strong, vivid colors the work and matte are in overall excellent condition. This very nice smaller version of the original painting by a very well recognized and collected artist, comes in its original matte and backing. The matte is showing signs of age toning and should be replaced with archival material's along with its cardboard backing for long term preservation. Acid free matte boards of this size can be purchased at minimal cost at any hobby store or framer. Although the print is clearly marked on the lower right hand side with the printers information, the original printers tape should be left intact, as to verify the prints originality. These were typically printed in runs of up to 2000 and sold at tourist shops where people traveling through the west purchased them for a few dollars at that time. Unfortunately, because they were so inexpensive, many were lost, discarded and destroyed over the years. After all these years, this one has survived beautifully and is now highly collectible.Take advantage of this really nice, low cost RARE piece by this highly sought after native American artist that will be appreciated by any art or horse lover for many years. ARTIST BIO:Frank Paul Vigil, a Jicarilla Apache was born in 1922 and is known for Apache Indian scenes, running horses with riders, paintings, drawings. He was active in Northwest, New Mexico up until his death in 1979. In his lifetime he received many awards, his works have been exhibited in many museums in north America and can be found in many important collections. His works have been listed at auction many times. Tewa Enterprises:Co-founded by Navajo artists Harrison Begay, A. Hamilton Mencher and Charles Barrows, Tewa Enterprises published original silkscreen prints which according to Mr. Mencher “All of Tewa’s runs consisted of 2000 impressions of high quality paper using the best quality Nazda silkscreen paints.” Its purpose was to promote art produced by Native American artists. !!
