Early ORIGINAL Halda X Gear Spindle and Leather Flocking Lined Case EXCELLENT

Description: ORIGINAL Halda X gear chrome spindle holders are scarce, but to have one in excellent condition with all of the 33 X gears and a complete set of 9 Z gears necessary for calibration of your Halda Tripmaster or Twinmaster odometer is almost impossible to obtain. The spindle is an absolutely period original and in excellent condition. This is not a reproduction. Note that the knurled knobs used to tighten the spindle shaft are wide and show appropriate wear. Pictured are the additional 9 Z gears which do not fit on the factory spindle. It was customary to keep these extra nine Z gears in a Kodak film canister during the rally, and one is included for this but not pictured. What makes this unique is that accompanying the complete spindle and gear set, is an ORIGINAL EARLY Halda logo leather gear carrier case. Originals were gold leaf stamped with the Halda logo and also flocking lined- this one is original, and again- in EXCELLENT condition. This is arguably the only one in existence remaining and in this remarkable shape. The flocking is not torn or worn through from the gear teeth and all case stitching is intact and complete. Reproductions have no flocking and the snap and backings are black rather than nickel plated brass, as seen from the inside of the leather case. Halda first offered these in their 1964 catalogue. International rally teams whose cars were equipped with Halda odometers were also presented a gear spindle and case as a complimentary gift for using their equipment. Purchased from the late SCCA Grand Master, Bob Radford, around 1991-2, l used these in one rally. Developing chronic health problems have prevented further use in my MGB, so l am reluctantly offering this for sale. I have included packaging details due to the scarcity of this item. As evidenced in the photographs, this has been packaged with extreme care and consideration for its value. The box is 25cm long; 16cm wide; and 11cm tall.
