Description: Dwarf Puget Gold Apricot Bare Root Tree 2-3 FT Tall Puget Gold apricots are the perfect combination of flavor, vigor and resilience. This resilience is the quality which truly separates Puget Gold from other apricot varieties. Like all apricots, the Puget Gold tree is an exceptionally fast grower and young producer of fruit. Puget Gold also boasts an incredible flavor that rivals the best apricots such as Blenheim. Theres a lot to like about Puget Gold, but still the most attractive quality of this tree is that it will reliably produce fruit year after year. As experienced growers will tell you, it can be quite difficult to reliably produce apricots every single year from the same tree. Apricot fruit itself is hardy and tough when established, the real problem with growing this fruit is that apricot trees tend to bloom too early in the spring. This early tendency exposes the tender apricot blossoms to the ever-changing and unpredictable spring weather. Hail, wind and frost can easily damage these delicate blossoms and rain can just as easily inhibit fruit growth by stopping insects from pollinating the flowers. Puget Gold trees were developed to deal with this problem by blooming later than other apricots and also by forming a dense branching structure that protects the flowers from harsh elements. With classic apricot flavor and the natural ability to protect its delicate blossoms, Puget Gold is the top apricot tree for regions with high rainfall and late spring seasons. Shipped at a height between 3 ft. and 4 ft. Disease-resistant apricot tree grows in USDA zones 4 to 9 Tolerates both sunlight and shade Can be planted between fall and spring Puget gold is inarguably the most consistent fruit-producing apricot variety Puget gold is self-pollinating Puget gold naturally protects its delicate blossoms from harsh conditions by blooming late and forming a dense branching structure Puget gold is a vigorous fast-grower and a young producer of fruit Cold hardy down to minus 25° POLLINATION: Puget Gold Apricot Trees are self-pollinating. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Puget Gold Apricot Tree will drastically increase the size of your crop. PLATING & CARE: 1. Planting: Full to partial sun (4 to 6 hours of sun) and well-drained soil ensure your tree will thrive. To plant, dig your hole shallower than the root ball and at least twice the width. After the hole is finished, loosen the soil in the planting hole so the roots can break through easily. Then, place your tree, backfill the soil and water to settle the roots. 2. Watering: Water about once weekly. However, if you get around an inch of rainfall every 10 days or so during the growing season, additional watering should be unnecessary. If you’re not sure how much water the tree needs, check the soil about 2 or 3 inches down - if its dry, its time to water. 3. Fertilizer: If you’re planting during the fall season, wait until the spring to use fertilizer. With nutrient-rich soil, fertilizer is unnecessary until your tree begins bearing fruit. After fruiting starts, an application of high-nitrogen fertilizer is recommended. 4. Pruning: Prune each year during the dormant season. If you’re located in growing zones 6 or farther north, wait to prune your tree until the late winter. When you do prune, make sure you’re pruning in an open center shape, which keeps the tree’s canopy open for light purposes. Mature Width: 6-8 ft.
