I found a few “Darling” doll makers such as Eegee, Sears, Darling-Irwin & Co., etc. At this point, I am unsure who the maker was, but would guestimate that it was made in the 1910s (based on her body style), making her approximately 110 years old at the time of this writing. The doll measures approximately 11 inches tall and is marked Darling on the back of its neck. It has a flanged composition head and ¼ hands, with a sawdust stuffed body and limbs with teddy bear style legs. It has painted strawberry brown molded hair with curly ringlets at the forehead, no eyebrows, painted side-glancing blue eyes with a painted black line to indicate eyelid, a little button nose, puffy rosy cheeks, and a slightly pursed mouth with red lips. The doll’s body is in stabilized condition. It has obviously had repair work throughout its little life and was repainted a while back to stabilize its composition. It has compo loss on its hands and could still use a little more TLC. The doll comes wearing a pair of purple flannel button up pajamas with white flowers and polka dots, baby doll diaper, and white diamond design knee-hi socks to complete the outfit.
