Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel was an American Major League Baseball right fielder and manager, best known as the manager of the championship New York Yankees of the 1950s and later, the expansion New York Mets. Nicknamed "The Ol' Perfessor", he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966. After almost three season in the minor leagues, Stengel reached the major leagues late in 1912, as outfielder, for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He six seasons there saw some success, among them playing for Brooklyns 1916 National League championship team. As a player, he will be remembered most for the two home runs he hit in the 1923 World Series for the Giants, each home, one on the 10th of October, the other on the 12th, winning the ball game. His World Series batting mark- he played with Brooklyn in the 1916 series and with the Giants in 1922 and '23-- is a nifty .393.
