Description: Hand written, signed letter, written on behalf of Ismail Pasha, (Ismail the Magnificent) Khedive of Egypt, around 1870. The letter is from Alfred House, England, and Saturday. It has no year date but around 1870. Two hand written pages on a single sheet. "Dear Madame, His Highness, the Khedive Ismail will be delighted to come and see you on Tuesday, the 15th as your suggested. Your obedient servant - Froduval (or similar signature). "PS I see that you say Tuesday the 16th. It is actually a slip of the pen and I conclude you mean Tuesday the 15th." The letter comes with a photocopy of an original newspaper cutting - relating to the "Madam" in the salutation: Mr and Mrs Rolls had the honor of entertaining his Highness Ismael, the ex Khedive of Egypt, Sefer Pasha and staff on Tuesday the 15th just. Ismail Pasha (1830-1895), also known as Ismail the Magnificent, was the Khedive of Egypt and conqueror of Sudan, until he was removed by the British in 1879. A Khedive was the honoroary title for the Viceroy of Egypt. Letter measures 7" x 4.5", single faint horizontal fold, as originally issued - in very good condition.
