Description: 1861 -1865 Civil War Confederate Canteen . What we have here is a authentic confederate canteen made of wood wrapped with copper & hand hammered period lettering (CS ) . This canteen most likely started out as wood & was wrapped during the war for 1 of two reasons. First reason it was wrapped because it leaked , 2nd it was wrapped as a token of southern pride , representing the confederate states of America . ( just like a piece of trench art ) ..Leather strap looks approximately world war 1 era ,at some point the strap was added ..Aquired from a 87 year old man , that told me he’s owned since the 1960s or 1970s he couldn’t quite remember.. This canteen has been verified by two different experienced military authorities & passed as 100% authentic … this is super rare & museum quality .. this is a one of a kind find .. serious inquiries only .
