Description: Antique Art Deco German Metal & Galalith Pocket Watch Chain + Chatelaine Pendant Fob, Double Sided. Circa 1920s-1930s. This lovely piece is unmarked. My research shows that it is in the style of the German locksmith-turned-jeweler Jakob Bengel, known for the watch fobs and chains he produced from 1873 to the 1930s. Bengel was influenced by the German Bauhaus movement that emphasized technical and functional excellence. The thick chain, metal brickware and colorful floral motif are in Bengal's signature style. Double sided - back and front are the same design. Unknown metal - possibly German silver, a nickel alloy. I am unsure. I believe the colorful portion is galalith, a synthetic man-made plastic (often used by Bengal) that resembles bakelite. About 5 inches long x 1 inch wide In very good condition with traces of age, but quite lovely. Please see separate condition section and enlarge photos for a close look.
