Issued to commemorate this event, these 45c airmail stamps were designed to show a glimpse at potential mail delivery methods in the future. Shown are a spacecraft, an air-suspended hover car, a moon rover, and the space shuttle. A bit more history: The United States Post Office issued its first stamp on July 1, 1847. Since that time, over 5000 stamps have been released. Each stamp is given its own identification number called a Scott Number. These stamps have been designated as Scott Airmail Number C125a.
