This No.62 folding boxwood carpenters’ ruler has a brass joint at the center and two brass hinges. The sides of the ruler are covered with a brass banding. Unfolded, it measures 24 inches. The scales are numbered by ones from 1 to 23. On one side, the rule is divided to 1/12" along the top edge and to 1/8" along the bottom edge. Stanley introduced this ruler in 1855, and it was discontinued in 1942 to conserve materials for the war effort. Based on the ruler’s graduations and the logo, this example dates was manufactured sometime between 1879 and 1921. This Stanley No 68 Folding Ruler 24" from the 1940s Brass hardware made from boxwood. Lots of great patina.
