And it was the revvingof engines, rather than the pounding of hooves,that reverberated through the autumn air.Located just north of San Diego, California,the opulent Del Mar facilityprovided a meeting of themotorcycles for Team Obso-lete, the Vintage Dirt TrackRacers Association, the AMAand the San Diego AntiqueMotorcycle Club.The result was an eclecticmix of events that includedboth vintage and modernmachinery racing in the dirtand on the asphalt. The pro-gram began on Friday withTeam Obsolete’s roadracingevents, which incorporatedSingles, Twins, the CycleFKor/J-sponsored 500 Pre-mier race and Harley-Davidson 883 Super-Twins competition.“The racing was everything we hoped itwould be,” said Team Obsolete’s Rob lannucci.“It was a win/win/win/win situation. The trackwas safe, nobody got hurt. It was great.”Laid out in the parking lot before Del Mar'sterraced grandstands, the course wound its waythrough lush landscaping and sculpted foun-tains. Said competitor Elliott Iverson, who racedhis Wood-Rotax FT600dirt-tracker, “The roadracecourse was perfect for thisbike because it’s basicallya paved TT course.
