The rage over Ravi's ragas--free-swingin improvisations that can last two or three hours--was started two years ago when Beatle George harrison became enamored with the sitar sound. Ravi Shankar and his sitar spurred a brief explosion of interest in Indian and other Eastern music. Ravi Shankar They met at Madison Square Garden to raise money for a suffering people. The result, "Concert for Bangladesh" was a major event, a top selling album, and now a motion picture, filmed by eight cameramen, directed by Saul Swimmer and helped in the editing process by Harrison and Dylan.
