Troy of Alaska, photographed here, poring over a map of the northwest territory. Governor Troy journeyed five thousand miles to lay before the administration a three-point program for stronger defense of Alaska. The first point includes plans for a Navy aeronautics and submarine base on the territorial coast to block attack via the short "Great Circle" route from Asia to Seattle, via the Aleutian islands and Alaska. The second point provides for an interior Army air base to back up the Navy defense and afford Army pilots essential training in high altitude and cold weather flying. Third and last point, an inventory of Alaska's mineral resources, conducted by C.C.C. campers under supervision of United States mine inspectors. Photo measures 6.5 x 7.75inches.
