Description: This card was given away by the KINEMA Movie Theater in the USA (city unknown). They were used to advertise and promote up coming Movies. In this case it features a black and white photographic image of DOROTHY GISH, and the back promotes her film “Boots” which was released in 1918, no copies of this film survive and it is considered lost. Here is some information I found about her on the internet: Dorothy Elizabeth Gish (March 11, 1898 – June 4, 1968) was an American stage and screen actress.[1] Dorothy and her older sister Lillian Gish were major movie stars of the silent era. Dorothy also had great success on the stage, and was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. Dorothy Gish was noted as a fine comedian, and many of her films were comedies. In recognition of her contributions to the motion picture industry, in 1960 Dorothy Gish was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6385 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. The card measures 2 ¾ inches by 1 ¾ inches. The card does have some corner and edge wear and some creases or bends. I think it displays nicely. It is a very pretty image. Who ever the photographer was, they captured a stunning portrait of her. This is a great cross over collectable. Coveted by card collectors and those who collect memorabilia from the early days of the film industry. Many of the films promoted on these cards are now considered lost as no copies exist anymore. Because this was advertising a specific Theater I don’t imagine that many were produced in the first place. I doubt many have survived over the years. I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Cigarettes , Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities, Dog Breeds, Circus themes and many more.
