The bond is in the amount of 187.5 Russian Roubles, or 500 French Francs, or 404 German Marks, or 19.156 Pounds British Sterling, or 239 Dutch Guilders. It paid 4 1/2 % interest. The proceeds were used to finance railroad construction, operation and maintenance in the Voronezh, Belgorod, Kursk, Ryazan, Tambov, Lipetsk and Penza regions of Russia and the Ukraine. At its peak, these lines operated over 1,500 miles of track, virtually all of which was destroyed during World War I and the Communist revolution. With the rise to power of the Communist Party in 1916, the bonds were defaulted and became valueless, except as collectors items, and no further interest was paid. This is a large certificate, measuring appx 17x13 inches and printed on thin paperstock. Language on the bond is in Russian, French and German. The back side contains terms for the bond loan. The certificate was printed in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1908. In spite of being well over 100 years old, this certificate is in overall good condition. All writing/markings are from its issuance and processing. There are no rips or tears internal to the bond, but the edges show wear and have a number of small tears. It has previously been folded. A great addition to someone's collection of European and Russian railroad bonds and stocks. Pictures sell! Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.300+ Listing Templates!
