Scientists determined that the town of Wadesboro, North Carolina, would be the optimal location for viewing the solar eclipse of May 28, 1900, and so the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory sent an expedition there for observing. They hoped to capture photographic proof of the solar corona during the event for further study. Smithsonian photographer Thomas Smillie rigged cameras to seven telescopes and successfully made eight glass-plate negatives during the eclipse, which are each reproduced in this volume. Also includes a summary of preparations for the expedition and the conclusions from the team's observations. FORN-ABE-MSB-0422-Shelf-572-am253
