Description: For sale is an awesome 1872 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar. The Seated Liberty Dollars were minted 1840 to 1873 until the U.S. stopped minting silver dollars for domestic use until the Morgan Dollar in 1878. Seated Liberty Dollars are very rare pretty much in any year because each year had very low mintages, even in lower grades. There simple isn't enough of them to go around to accommodate all collectors who want them, which is why they are such high priced coins. And like all Seated Liberty Dollars, this coin is 90% silver. As you can see from the pics the coin is in really nice shape, and it would come in at a nice F grade, very close to VF. The date, stars, and all lettering and images are clear and bold. Every letter in LIBERTY is present which is typically one of the first things to wear down on these coins. But as you can see from the pics the coins biggest flaw is it has been holed. Holing coins was actually a common thing back in this era because most people's clothes did not have pockets so they would drill holes in them and pass a string through it to wear the coins around their neck for safe keeping. While it does reduce the value of the coin, it does add to the historic nature of it. I did reduce the price of the coin heavily due to the hole, otherwise it would be priced MUCH higher--almost double. You rarely see Seated Liberty Dollars come to market, especially one this low priced, so don't let this one go! Thanks!
