Description: 1862 CSA Confederate $100 Signed Note T-39 Offered for your consideration is a sought after 1862 $100 Confederate Note T-39. The note has the popular “Train” vignette on the front, with easily visible “straight steam” (all white) coming out of the smokestack. To the left is a vignette of a milkmaid. Once thought to be an apple, the object in her left hand above her head is most likely the handle of the bucket on her head. These notes were payable six months after the ratification of a Treaty of Peace between the Confederate States and United States and were not fundable. The date and serial number are hand inscribed, and the signature is hand signed. Printing: "J T Paterson, Columbia, S. C." The reserve is dated January 1, 1863, as the issue date and signed with the addition of an interest stamp for payment of January 1864 in Jackson, Mississippi (one year later) indicating that the interest was collected by the bearer. These interest-bearing notes were one form of currency issued by the Confederate government. In this example, "Six months after Ratification of a Treaty of Peace between the Confederate States and the United States / Confederate States of America/ will pay / One hundred dollars to bearer with Interest at two cents per day / receivable in payment of all duties except export duties."
